H.H. Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has succeeded the late Amir H.H. Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and sworn in before Parliament on 30 September 2020.
1962 –1978: Governor of Hawalli
1978 – 1988: Minister of Interior and held this post until 26 January
1988 – 1991: Minister of Defense
1991 – 1992: Following the liberation of Kuwait in the Gulf War, was appointed as the acting minister of labor and social affairs
1994 – 2003: Deputy Chief of the National Guard and the Minister of Interior
2003 – 2006: First Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait and Minister of Interior
2006 – 2020: The Crown Prince of Kuwait

The Crown Prince is the Heir Apparent to the Amir of the State of Kuwait. According to the Constitution, “The Heir Apparent shall be designated within one year at the latest from the date of the accession of the Amir. His designation shall be affected by an Amiri Order upon the nomination of the Amir and the approval of the National Assembly, which shall be approved by a majority vote of its members in a special sitting”.
Kuwait’s current Crown Prince H.H. Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, was nominated by H.H. Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as crown prince on October 7th, 2020, and the nomination has been approved by Kuwait’s National Assembly on October 8, 2020.
